Traditionally, fire extinguishers are tucked away in cabinets or utility rooms, out of sight from guests. However, in case of an emergency, every second counts. Boutique offers a solution by providing a visually pleasing housing for a regular home or kitchen fire extinguisher. With its rounded cylindrical shape and transparent polycarbonate cover, Boutique can be placed anywhere in the home, serving as a constant reminder of its presence.
Cliff Shin explains, "The goal of Boutique is to change the perception of fire extinguishers from something unpleasant to something beautiful. By incorporating it into our everyday surroundings, we are more likely to remember its location when it is needed the most."
Designed to accommodate a standard-sized home fire extinguisher, Boutique is both functional and customizable. In case of a fire, users simply pull the flower ball, which releases the upper cover of the fire extinguisher, similar to pulling a safety pin. This intuitive interaction ensures quick and easy access to the extinguisher in times of emergency.
The development of Boutique was not without its challenges. Overcoming the stereotype of unattractive fire extinguishers and associating them with negative emotions was a significant hurdle. However, Cliff Shin successfully transformed these perceptions into positive emotions by creating a visually pleasing design that instills a sense of pride in its owners.
Recognizing the importance of fire safety, Boutique was meticulously designed to meet professional and industrial requirements. In 2014, it was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Safety Clothing and Personal Protective Equipment Design category. This prestigious accolade is a testament to Boutique's well-designed, practical, and innovative nature.
With Boutique, fire safety no longer needs to be hidden away. It can now take center stage in our homes, serving as a constant reminder of the importance of preparedness and protection. By seamlessly blending functionality and aesthetics, Cliff Shin has created a design that not only enhances our living spaces but also contributes to a safer world.
